ALICE Technologies, the developer of the industry’s first construction schedule optimization platform, has launched “Optimization Objectives” for ALICE Core—a feature that enables ALICE users to fine-tune the platform's optimization algorithm to align with their specific project goals.
With Optimization Objectives, ALICE users gain the flexibility to set, prioritize, and balance key project scheduling goals, helping them find optimized schedules that meet their project-specific needs with precision.
Each time a scenario is run in ALICE, the platform’s advanced scheduling algorithm evaluates millions of possible outcomes to identify optimal solutions. With Optimization Objectives, users can now set, prioritize, and rank specific goals for each simulation run. ALICE then uses these preferences to generate optimized options in alignment with specific project needs, parameters, and priorities.
This fine-tuning of project options enables teams to make better, more informed decisions. It provides users with flexibility and adaptability while keeping the algorithm's core logic intact. This makes the platform more versatile and user-driven rather than static.
Morgan Hays, Senior Vice President of Product at ALICE Technologies, adds, "Optimization Objectives gives users the freedom to shape their schedules, and this flexibility is a breakthrough for project teams, empowering them to make adjustments and optimize around their unique priorities.”
Key Benefits of Optimization Objectives:
- Customizable Objectives: Users can select and prioritize various optimization goals to meet a project’s specific requirements. Potential goals might include minimizing project duration, negative lag, resource idle time or prioritization of precedence logic, achievement of milestones, and/or reinforcement of schedule compactness as defined by custom user-defined fields. ALICE optimizes goals sequentially to suit project-specific requirements according to the chosen order of priority. Moreover, users can also fine-tune simulations by specifying a target project end date. ALICE then focuses on identifying and generating solutions that meet this defined deadline.
- Flexible Simulation Run-Times: Adjustable run times allow teams to refine simulations based on the level of detail or speed they need, balancing project complexity with quick decision-making.
- Improved Control and Efficiency: By allowing teams to optimize schedules based on custom priorities, ALICE reduces manual adjustments and supports better project planning, enabling users to respond quickly to unexpected changes or resource constraints.
“This feature is about putting control back in our users’ hands so they can optimize their schedules based on what matters most to them,” continues Hays. “Solving this flexibility challenge has been one of our toughest problems, and our optimization and engineering teams have nailed it.”
Since its inception, ALICE has enabled project teams worldwide to uncover the most efficient path forward for their projects, supporting over $100 billion in capital projects across infrastructure, industrial, and commercial construction.
Earlier this year, the company launched a new product, ALICE Core, that allows users to optimize their existing schedules built in tools like MS Project, Oracle Primavera P6, or Primavera Cloud to discover the most efficient path for their project.
With the launch of Optimization Objectives, ALICE takes another step forward in its mission to empower the construction industry with advanced technology, supporting project teams in building smarter, faster, and antifragile schedules.
ALICE Technologies is the creator of the world’s first construction schedule optimization platform built to optimize, de-risk and recover capital projects with AI. Founded in 2015 and spun out of research from Stanford University, ALICE enables large contractors and owners to discover the most efficient path for their projects with reduced risk. The company works with large customers worldwide in the infrastructure, industrial, and commercial construction segments, such as Andrade Gutierrez, Bouygues, SCS JV, and Implenia. Headquartered in the U.S. ALICE also has significant operations in the Czech Republic, the U.K., and India. Learn more at www.alicetechnologies.com.
