Oct. 8, 2024 — Integrated Projects (IPX), a building digitization platform, has significantly enhanced its scan-to-BIM services through a new integration with Autodesk Construction Cloud®, a portfolio of software and services that combines advanced technology, a builders network and predictive insights for construction teams. Project teams can now transfer their Revit-authored Building Information Models (BIM) generated with IPX directly into Autodesk® Build, Autodesk® Docs, or BIM 360®, streamlining workflows and empowering teams to begin working with the files immediately. Every project can start with accurate existing conditions in days, not months.
Says Jose Cruz, Jr, CEO of Integrated Projects: "We've digitized 5,000 locations to date, but that's a tiny dent: 90% of all buildings lack up-to-date, workable documentation [National Institute of Standards & Technology]. By streamlining the flow of BIM data, we aim to unlock better outcomes across the board—helping owners, architects, and construction teams make informed decisions, faster.”
The integration is designed to address the growing demands on BIM Managers and Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) teams who are tasked with coordinating complex projects under tight timelines. This integration enables direct file transfers from IPX to ACC, avoiding the usual manual upload process that was both time-consuming and prone to errors.
"Our customers and their project teams are often time-strapped when coordinating existing conditions," says George Valdes, Head of Product at Integrated Projects. "We’re excited to offer this integration with Autodesk Construction Cloud, which will give BIM and VDC teams time back in their workday and give project teams the confidence to pursue great project outcomes, supported by accurate existing conditions. By streamlining the process, our customers maintain high standards across their projects and help their project teams start on the 50-yard line.”
Studies show that anywhere between 5 - 12% of a project’s overrun costs are associated with rework, and inaccurate data is one of the biggest contributors to that expense [Autodesk + FMI]. With this integration, IPX offers a comprehensive solution to provide clarity to the pre-construction phase, ensuring that architects, engineers, and contractors are always working from the most accurate and up-to-date information. Project teams use the intuitive, browser-based IPX platform to align with non-technical stakeholders.
In addition to the transfer of BIM files, the integration with Autodesk Construction Cloud provides BIM Managers and VDC teams with powerful tools to manage large portfolios and complex projects, such as advanced search and filtering of spatial, area, and element data.
"The integration of BIM data from IPX to ACC minimizes the risk of errors at a key point in the pre-construction workflow. We're continually adopting productivity enhancements such as this to optimize project outcomes,” says Vincent Poon, VDC Manager at Structure Tone.
“Builders need to deal with the jobsite environment as it is, not just as it appears in the designs,” said James Cook, director of industry & technology partnerships at Autodesk. “Integrating scan-to-BIM 3D models generated with Integrated Projects into Autodesk Construction Cloud provides project managers with vital spatial context about existing conditions, helping them better manage the intricacies of their projects.”
IPX’s SCANIT service, which enables rapid deployment of 3D laser scanning professionals to capture existing conditions and convert them into digital models; and BIMIT service, which converts point clouds into BIM and CAD models, are now more powerful than ever with this integration.
As IPX continues to innovate and support the needs of the AECO industry, this integration marks a significant step forward in helping teams manage their projects with greater precision and confidence.
