DuPont Performance Building Solutions and Corian® Design today published its 2024 Sustainability Progress Report, highlighting the 78 percent reduction in Scopes 1 and 2 Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions achieved in 2023, relative to its 2019 baseline year. The report also features examples of how DuPont is advancing sustainable innovation in the Building & Construction industry to act on climate, increase circularity and use products and materials that are safe and sustainable by design.
“The 78% emissions reduction is our response to the increasing expectations of customers and leaders in the construction industry who see the importance of achieving bold climate goals,” said Tim Lacey, global vice president and general manager, DuPont Shelter Solutions. “By delivering low embodied carbon innovation, not only are we meeting our sustainability goals, but also helping customers to achieve their own. Together, we will continue down the path to a net zero built environment, because it’s not only what a growing number of our customers expect, it’s what today’s and tomorrow’s generations deserve.”
Additional sustainability accomplishments highlighted in the report include:
- Contributing significantly to exceeding DuPont’s Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)-validated 2030 GHG reduction goals seven years ahead of target, outperforming expectations of the Paris Accord 1.5°C ambition
- Expanding the business’s Sustainable and Productive Construction innovation platform with the DuPont™ ArmorWall™ System as a premium composite panel system, launching DuPont™ Tyvek® Trifecta™, a non-combustible breather membrane for exterior walls, and launching Styrofoam™ Brand Plazamate™ XR Foam Insulation- the highest thermal resistance insulation among extruded foam board for space-constrained construction assemblies
- Receiving recognition for sustainable innovation in 2023 with the R&D 100 award for Styrofoam™ Brand Plazamate XR Foam Insulation and the American Chemistry Council Sustainability Leadership Award for Low-GWP Styrofoam™ Brand XPS Insulation
- Expanding the Corian® Design fabricator scrap take-back program to allow Corian® Solid Surface fabricators to send their scraps back to be recycled into new Corian® products at no cost to them
- Launching the DuPont™ Thermax™ NH Series Insulation to intentionally remove halogenated substances from the formulation
- Achieving a record number of volunteer hours contributed by employees in the business, focused on building communities, strengthening families, and empowering the next generation across the globe
The 2024 Sustainability Progress Report showcases how DuPont’s product innovations, such as the recent reformulations of the Styrofoam™ Brand XPS Insulation and Froth-Pak™ Spray Foam Insulation & Sealant product lines, have offered significant reduction in embodied carbon, and are helping enable decarbonization in the built environment.
These achievements played a significant role in supporting DuPont in achieving its 2030 GHG reduction targets seven years ahead of schedule. In 2023, the company exceeded its 2030 Scopes 1 & 2 and Scope 3 GHG reduction targets, which are SBTi-validated and aligned to the Paris Accord 1.5°C ambition. This achievement underscores the company’s commitment to sustainability, which includes reducing GHG emissions across the value chain, improving material circularity, and eliminating substances of concern.
