IRVINE, Calif., June 13, 2019 – MVE + Partners, a leading architecture, design and planning firm continues its 45-year history of developing innovative design solutions by earning five Grand Awards, aka Gold Nugget Awards, for two of its multi-family projects, The Residences at Pacific City and The Griffin on Spring at the 2019 PCBC® Gold Nugget Awards Ceremony, including the prestigious Grand Award for the Best Multi-Family Community of the Year. In its 56th year, the Gold Nugget Awards is the largest and most prestigious competition of its kind in the nation. More than 600 entries from throughout the United States and around the globe were submitted this year. Grand Award winners were honored for architectural design and planning excellence from an elite pool of approximately 250 Merit Award winners.
“We thank our clients UDR and Holland Partner Group for entrusting MVE with the opportunity of designing their projects, engaging our teams, consultants and builders in a collaborative process that realizes built work that inspires,” said Matthew McLarand, president and director of design, MVE + Partners.
The Residences at Pacific City
Designed by MVE + Partners for developer UDR, The Residences at Pacific City was named Grand Award winner in four categories: Multi-Family Community of The Year, Best Recreational Use Facility – Community Amenity, Best Multi-Family Housing Community – 30-60 DU/Acre and Best Indoor/Outdoor Lifestyle for a Community.
Located in Huntington Beach, aka Surf City USA, The Residences at Pacific City is inspired by the rich California coastal lifestyle and allows surf-enthusiasts to work, live and play. The design of the 516-unit project draws from the local waves crashing only a few blocks away, incorporating an iconic barreling wave Clubhouse that provides surfboard and paddleboard lockers, a community park, resort-style pool and boardwalk.
The Griffin on Spring
Designed by MVE + Partners for developer Holland Partner Group, The Griffin on Spring was recognized in the Best Multi-Family Housing Community – 100 DU/Acre or More category. Located in downtown Los Angeles, The Griffin on Spring is a luxury 24-story mixed-use development comprised of 275 residential units above 9,000 square feet of ground‑floor retail. Its design was inspired by the historic context of the neighborhood, with the use of metal, cast stone and other elements incorporated in a 150‑foot traditional street wall that aligns with the classic style of Los Angeles circa 1920. The Griffin also was recently awarded the Silver Award for best mixed-use project by the Los Angeles Business Journal’s Commercial Real Estate Awards.
The PCBC jury also selected two MVE + Partners projects as 2019 Award of Merit honorees:
The Grace on Spring, located across from The Griffin and designed for developer Holland Partner Group, is a luxury 24-story, mixed-use tower, incorporating a design that pays homage to the nearby Fashion District. The project was competing in the Best Multi-Family Housing Community – 100 DU/Acre or More category.
Sugar Alley is a mixed-use project located in the Sugar House District in Salt Lake City, designed for Lowe Property Group and Eight Bay. It was competing in the Best On-the-Boards Mixed-Use 35 DU/acre category.
