Dive Brief:
- Tucson, Ariz., consultant Jerry Yudelson has been named president of the Green Building Initiative, which developed the Green Globes assessment and rating system for buildings.
- Yudelson is an engineer by training and a longtime advocate for green building, and he was one of the first group of LEED Fellows named by the U.S. Green Building Council.
- Yudelson's emphasis, GBI said, will be "development, expansion and marketing" of the Green Globes, which is a challenger to the older and more widespread LEED rating system.
Dive Insight:
Yudelson also has experience working with the federal government, where the General Services Administration and the Department of Defense have recently made Green Globes an option along with LEED for meeting green requirements in the construction and renovation of buildings. GBI offers a federal program tool called Guiding Principles Compliance, and part of Yudelson's job will be promoting that.
