Whiting-Turner will build its new headquarters on the Goucher College campus in Baltimore, according to a Feb. 26 news release from Goucher.
Private college Goucher and Whiting-Turner will use the new headquarters as a hub to introduce young people to career opportunities in design and construction, according to the release. The two signed a 50-year ground lease agreement, reinforcing their shared commitment to long-term growth and collaboration.
The move represents a significant milestone for the construction firm — even though it’s only physically moving about a mile from its current Towson, Maryland, location, according to Whiting-Turner President and CEO Tim Regan.
“This partnership brings together two historic Baltimore institutions with more than a century of leadership and innovation. It reflects our commitment to the future growth of our company while strengthening our ties to the community,” Regan said in the release. “We are excited to collaborate with Goucher to create a space that cultivates engagement, innovation and lasting partnerships for generations to come."
The 150,000-square-foot office building will be designed to foster connections with both the Goucher community and the surrounding Towson area, according to the release. In addition to serving as a workspace for Whiting-Turner’s local employees, the facility will also support “state-of-the-art, safety-focused industry training and other community-focused initiatives.”
Whiting-Turner, which posted $11.3 billion in revenue last year, is the fifth-largest contractor in the country by revenue. The firm tapped San Francisco-based Gensler to lead design and development, according to the release.
It’s not the only Washington, D.C.- and Baltimore-area construction company opening new offices. Falls Church, Virginia-based HITT Contracting broke ground on its six-story, 270,000-square-foot headquarters in January.
The project is slated to be complete in late 2028.
