• Google is having two four-story buildings constructed atop barges tied up in San Francisco and Portland, Maine.
• Having the work done offshore gets the work out from under regulations that otherwise would mean public plans and building permits.
• At this point, there is speculation, but no evidence to say what is going on, and up, aboard the platforms.

Being known as the world's first resource for answers to all kinds of questions is different than disclosing your own, clearly. One guess as to what that the San Francisco building might be is some sort of Google store. Another guess is that the structures will be floating data centers powered by wave-generated electricity.
