At the International Builders' Show, Weyerhaeuser introduced a twist on its TJI joists, a fire-resistant coating it is calling Flak Jacket.
The company describes Flack Jacket as a "patent-pending coating that enhances the fire resistance of TJI joists and enables them to meet both single and multi-family fire protection code requirements."
Joists with the coating let builders "achieve a one-hour fire-rated assembly with just a single layer of gypsum and no expensive mineral wool," Weyerhaeuser says.
