At least one large union does not agree with a coalition of building-trades unions that last week blasted President Obama for deciding that the proposed Keystone XL pipeline from northern Canada to Texas could be properly evaluated before a deadline Congress imposed on him.
“The Administration made the right decision to ensure that a project of this scale is done in a way that is good for both jobs and the environment,” said United Steelworkers President Leo W. Gerard said.
Last week, the coalition known as the Building and Construction Trades Department said Obama had made a mistake because "one clear opportunity to demonstrate his commitment to unemployed Americans was the approval of the construction permit for the Keystone XL pipeline."
"The fact is, more time is needed to ensure that this project will have the economic and environmental benefits claimed by the developer,”the Steelworkers' Gerard said.
