Dive Brief:
- Civil and building contractor Tutor Perini has been awarded a $285 million contract to expand the Pechanga Resort and Casino in Temecula, CA.
- The resort expansion project includes adding a 568-room and suite hotel wing; a freestanding luxury two-story spa and salon with 17 treatment rooms, a fitness center and hydrotherapy pool terrace; a resort-style pool complex with eight pool areas; two restaurants and an additional 67,000 square feet of event space, Business Wire reported.
- Tutor Perini has a long-term history with the Pechanga Development Corporation, the economic development side of the Pechanga Band of Luiseño Indians, and has previously completed other phases of the Pechanga Resort and Casino over the past 13 years.
Dive Insight:
Tutor Perini was also recently awarded a significant portion, $742 million, of the East Side Access project in New York City. The commuter rail project will connect approximately 160,000 Long Island Rail Road passengers to Grand Central Terminal starting in 2022.
It has also been selected to complete two civil projects totaling a little over $102 million — a $69.8 million highway project in Delaware and a $32.6 million runway improvement project in the Federated States of Micronesia.
However, not all of Tutor Perini's projects have experienced smooth sailing. The company is also a joint venture partner in the much-delayed Alaskan Way Viaduct project in Seattle and has blamed a recent, heavy corporate loss on the 52-story multi-use tower in the Hudson Yards development in Manhattan.
The company is also embroiled in a battle over project delays on the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport south runway expansion.
