Turner Construction broke ground on a $41 million engineering classroom and research building at Texas A&M University in Galveston, according to a May 23 news release.
The three-story building will be home to multiple departments within the growing College of Engineering, according to the university, and will span approximately 54,000 square feet. It will serve as a centerpiece for freshman engineering students and existing four-year engineering and technology programs.
As part of the facility’s technology focus, it will feature both research laboratory space for faculty-led research programs, as well as a state-of-the-art technology makerspace where students can design and develop physical prototypes for academic projects.
New York City-based Turner has announced a string of higher-education projects in recent months. In April, it announced a $300 million contract for a Medical Education Building at the University of California, Merced, as well as a $184 million Agriculture Research Building at the University of Kentucky in Lexington.
Last month, it announced it was selected for a $190 million project for the College of Veterinary Medicine at Clemson University in South Carolina.
Turner anticipates the Texas A&M project to be completed in the fall of 2025.
