Dive Brief:
- Turner Construction Co., which previously handled work on the Cleveland Convention Center complex, has picked up another deal in the city—this time on a $260 million hotel project near the convention center on Cleveland's Lakeside Avenue.
- The Cuyahoga County Council is expected to begin reviewing legislation on Tuesday related to the publicly-financed project, which a Cuyahoga County committee named Turner to lead, with Ozanne Construction Co. and Van Auken Akins Architects as partners.
- Gilbane Building Co., Panzica Construction Co. and Hunt Construction Group were among the companies that had been competing for the project.
Dive Insight:
Turner is a well-recognized name in the convention-hotel-building world, and with an established footprint in Cleveland their win here doesn't necessarily come as a surprise. The city, meanwhile, will surely appreciate the jobs supplied by the peak 400-person crew that's going to be required to get this 600- to 650-room project up and open for 2016.
