New York City-based Turner Construction, the largest contractor in the U.S. by revenue, recently completed $93.4 million in work on two projects at the University of Georgia in Athens. It has also kicked off jobs at the university’s football and baseball stadiums.
The $41.4 million Black-Diallo-Miller Residence Hall is a six-story 120,000-square-foot facility that will provide housing for 525 first-year students in double-occupancy rooms beginning in fall 2022, the company said in a press release. The building is named for Harold A. Black, Mary Blackwell Diallo and Kerry Rushin Miller, the first African-American students to enroll as freshmen at the school and complete their undergraduate degrees.
The $52 million Interdisciplinary STEM Research Building, Phase II, is a three-story 100,000-square-foot facility built on top of an existing 320-space parking deck. The building provides room for 27 principal investigators; laboratory space for the chemistry, biology and engineering departments; and interdisciplinary research space and classrooms, Turner said.
Turner also said it began work on a $48 million addition and renovation at Sanford Stadium, home to the school’s football team, and a $28 million addition and renovation at Foley Field, the university’s baseball venue.
