Construction spending — June 1
The Commerce Department will release April construction spending results on Wednesday, June 1. Last month, the department announced spending rose 0.3% in March to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $1.14 trillion.
Private residential construction surged 1.6% in March, while nonresidential construction spending increased 0.7%. March's spending results failed to meet expectations, as economists surveyed by MarketWatch predicted a 0.7% rise.

Regulation roundup feature article — June 2
Professionals in all sectors of the construction industry often point to regulation costs as one of the main obstacles to stronger business growth. On the homebuilding side, builders have said that government regulations can add nearly 25% to a home's selling price. On the commercial side, construction companies have pointed to such regulations as the Davis-Bacon Act as government measures that drive up a project's costs.
