Union labor feature article — March 31
Union vs. non-union labor is a constant debate in the construction industry. Proponents of unions often tout the safety benefits and increased certainty on a project. Opponents, however, say that union labor is more expensive and can cut out local non-union workers from a project.
But are those points true? Can unions really deliver a higher quality product than non-union labor? In our feature article on Thursday, March 31, we'll talk with the experts to find out the pros and cons of using union labor for construction projects.
Construction spending — April 1
The Commerce Department will release February construction spending results on Friday, April 1. Last month, the department announced spending surged 1.5% between December and January to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $1.141 trillion.
Spending in January was 10.4% higher than January 2015, and it reached the highest level in eight years. Last month's results far surpassed expectations, as economists surveyed by MarketWatch predicted only a 0.2% increase.
Will Friday's results keep up the positive growth in construction spending?
