Construction tech startups are invited to earn a platform for showcasing their products by taking part in a global competition.
The Construction Startup Competition 2020 is looking for what organizers call “the missing piece” in the construction technology landscape. Run by CEMEX Ventures, a corporate venture capital firm for construction materials company CEMEX, startups in fields such as 3D printing, drones, robotics, augmented and virtual reality, offsite construction and BIM are encouraged to enter the fourth annual competition. (Click here to learn abut the 10 winners of last year's competition.)
CEMEX Ventures’ portfolio includes companies like StructionSite and GoFor, which have secured $7 million and $9.8 million in funding respectively. Although there is no cash prize for the startup competition, winners are often included in CEMEX Ventures’ portfolio. There is also no predetermined number of winners.
CEMEX Ventures is partnering with Ferrovial, Hilti, VINCI Group’s Leonard and NOVA by Saint-Gobain for the competition.
The companies are looking for solutions in five key areas:
- Product design and engineering to maximize construction efficiency.
- Supply chain management allowing for easier and streamlined acquisition of materials.
- Digital solutions to boost productivity.
- Innovative building materials and methodology.
- Smart and sustainable building technology.
Registration for the competition ends July 26 and winners will be announced Nov. 5. The winners will then get the chance to pitch their ideas at a showcase at the Builtworlds Venture Conference in Chicago in early December. All expenses to visit the exposition will be paid for the winners.
