- New England-based Suffolk is expanding its presence in Northern New England with a new office in Portland, Maine, the company announced on Jan. 16.
- The contractor cited growing demand in the form of healthcare and education facilities as the reason for its expansion in the area, per the release. The office will serve projects in Maine, Vermont and New Hampshire.
- Suffolk has tapped 20-year construction veteran Justin Lyons, a former superintendent and project manager at New York City-based Turner Construction, to lead growth in the area, said Ella Shreve, a Suffolk spokesperson. Most recently, Lyons was a project executive at Scarborough, Maine-based Landry/French Construction, according to his LinkedIn.

“Suffolk is thrilled for the opening of our Portland office, which is a testament to our confidence in the strength of the Northern New England market,” said John Fish, Suffolk’s CEO, in the release.
The contractor, headquartered in Boston, said it has managed jobs in the three Northern New England states previously and sees opportunity from higher education and healthcare clients looking to expand and modernize operations there.
Current projects in the Boston builder’s portfolio include the $350 million Boston University Center for Computing and Data Sciences and the $636 million Boston Children's Hospital Hale Family Clinical Building.
Suffolk also highlighted sustainability as a key factor in construction within the state, and its reason for expansion. In Brunswick, Maine, Consigli Construction built new, $37 million mass timber buildings on Bowdoin College’s campus, which are the first commercially scaled structures made of the material.
