New York City-based STO Building Group named industry veteran Greg Dunkle as chief operating officer, the builder announced on Dec. 12 in a press release shared with Construction Dive. The COO role is newly created at the company, per the release.
Dunkle, who was previously the company’s chief administrative officer, has nearly 30 years of executive experience in the construction industry, according to his LinkedIn. Prior to his work at STO, he held high-level positions at Providence, Rhode Island-based Gilbane Building Co. and Los Angeles-based Tutor Perini.
In his new role, Dunkle will help the 14 companies that make up the STO Building Group portfolio achieve their annual operating and performance goals, including New York City-based Structure Tone and Pavarani McGovern; Fairfield, New Jersey-based RC Andersen; Toronto-based Govan Brown and Seattle-based Abbott Construction, according to the release.
The move comes amid a flurry of other promotions within the builder’s organizational structure:
- The company named Amy Wincko as chief strategy officer, a newly created role that will elevate her involvement in overall company strategy, vision and long-term growth, the release said.
- The company appointed David Hamilton as its director of strategic sourcing, another new role that STO created. Hamilton will leverage relationships that he built as the vice president of purchasing at Structure Tone New York and share his experience with STO portfolio companies, according to the release.
- The company promoted Robert Leon chief innovation officer. Leon will lead a number of investments in STO’s industry partnerships and pilot programs to continue testing efficiencies and processes to help project teams succeed, per the release. Leon’s role existed prior to the announcement, the consortium confirmed.
STO created the new roles as part of an update to its organizational structure, given the company’s past growth and its preparation for future expansion, said Jim Donaghy, STO’s executive chair.
“With this updated structure, our companies have the expected autonomy to make decisions while leveraging the power of our combined resources and expertise when it best serves our clients,” said STO Building Group CEO Bob Mullen in the release.
