Open floor plans make for striking commercial environments. Movable walls allow almost total adaptability. But those and other trends make it critical to have a well-designed sound-masking system as part of the project, Niklas Moeller explains in Construction Executive magazine.
Moeller, vice president of K.R. Moeller Associates Ltd., Burlington, Ontario, Canada, tells builders, "A well-developed specification that focuses on the system’s performance is essential to ensuring its benefits are not left to chance."
A wise approach that leads to success and also widens the pool of available systems is to use six criteria that are critical for a proper design and installation, Moeller says.
He lists them as:
- zone size
- sound generation
- volume adjustment
- frequency adjustment
- speaker characteristics
- measured results.
