Skanska USA will work on substantial structure improvements to the State Route 71/91 Interchange in Riverside County, California, the company announced Thursday.
The U.S. arm of the Swedish developer and contractor will improve safety, enhance traffic flow and improve accessibility on the well-traveled corridor. Riverside County in Southern California includes the cities of Corona and Riverside east of Los Angeles, as well as Joshua Tree National Park.
Work on the project will include:
- The replacement of a single-lane connector between eastbound State Route 91 and State Route 71 with a two-lane direct connector ramp.
- Construction of a new auxiliary lane from Green River Road to east of the interchange.
- Realignment of the eastbound State Route 91 on-ramp from Green River Road, to improve access to the interchange.
The project is expected to be complete in 2025.
During the company’s most recent earnings call in February, Skanska said that nonresidential construction in the U.S. is the sole sector where expectations for the future had improved when compared to the previous period.
For example, Skanska won the $167 million Brooklyn Bridge rehab project in November, as well as several other recent project wins in the U.S., including a $480 million bus depot in Queens, New York, and an $83.6 million life sciences building for George Mason University in Virginia.
CEO Anders Danielsson called seeing the federal money from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act starting to create projects “encouraging,” as the contractor works on more civil projects in the states.
