Bonar D. Rodgers, widely known as "B.D." and the founder of Charlotte, N.C.-based Rodgers Builders Inc., has passed away at the age of 89.
Rodgers found the company in 1963 after getting his civil engineering degree at North Carolina State University and working in the construction business for a decade.
Rodgers died Feb. 14, but his family did not disclose the reason for his death, the Charlotte Observer reported.

Rodgers Builders was based on Rodgers' home town, and he was a well-known figure in the area. His passing drew comments from Hugh McColl, head of Bank of America, and Rolfe Neill, publisher of the Charlotte Observer. Rodgers Builders was one of the firms in the team that renovated the Time Warner Cable Arena for the 2012 Democratic National Convention in Charlotte.
