Dive Brief:
- At the site where a Veterans Affairs hospital is being built in Aurora, Colo., a 1,000-pound propane tank caught fire and exploded early Tuesday, startling more than a few nearby residents.
- That tank, and a second one that caught fire but did not blow up, fuel heaters that warm workers during the day, but no work was going on when the blast happened shortly after midnight.
- Firefighters made short work of the blast after a surprised security guard called them, but general contractor Kiewit called off work Tuesday while the fire department tried to determine how the fire started.
Dive Insight:
This is the kind of site accident that gets attention, but luckily didn't hurt anyone. Kiewit said that it does not expect the mishap to delay construction.
