General contractors say preconstruction project collaboration is happening much earlier, and with greater transparency and communication, than before the pandemic. Clients are asking for more communication, too, with owners requesting to meet the preconstruction and estimating and management teams before a project begins.

What’s more, preconstruction timelines have shrunk by a third post-pandemic, putting more pressure on designers, planning and material procurement. Complicating matters is that there is not just one established path when it comes to how projects of the future will be managed during preconstruction.
