PCL Construction has substantially completed renovations on the Naples, Florida, Ritz-Carlton that was damaged by Hurricane Ian in 2022, the contractor announced on July 10. The original cost for the work prior to hurricane damage was $50 million, according to Gulfshore Business.
PCL's contract included the construction of a new tower and extensive renovations across the resort. The resort's newest addition, the Vanderbilt Tower, features a new lounge and more than 70 club-level guest rooms, according to the release.
However, PCL’s team had a significant hurdle to overcome. The Edmonton, Alberta-based contractor, whose U.S. headquarters are in Denver, was forced to contend with Hurricane Ian.
The storm made landfall in Florida on Sept. 28 as a Category 5 hurricane, the strongest possible on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. Ian was responsible for over 150 deaths and $112 billion in damages, making it the costliest hurricane in Florida’s history, per the National Hurricane Center.
The project was originally scheduled for completion in December 2022. Following the hurricane, PCL added restoration and recovery work to its docket, alongside the previously scheduled renovations.
"I'm incredibly proud of the project team for persevering during a time where there were several unknowns. They responded well and worked tirelessly to get the resort in the position it's in today," said Rick Goldman, PCL Construction's vice president and district manager of the Orlando division, in the release.
The resort is now open to guests.
