Property Group Partners' has a very different kind of project in the works in Washington, D.C., one different enough that PGP and the U.S. Green Building Council are working on a special LEED standard for it.
The development, Capitol Crossing, is estimated to cost $1.3 billion for 2.2 million square feet that will rise partly on a deck to be built over Interstate 395 so it will connect Capitol Hill with the city's East End. It is to include 700,000 square feet of retail space.
What Capitol Crossing will do, PGP principal David Happ told GlobeSt.com, is “fill in the void that 395 gashed through the city.”
The Washington Business Journal reported that PGP's schedule is to close with the city on the purchase of air rights over the highway in June, break ground for the platform as soon as the second quarter of 2013 and have occupancy begin in 2015.
Sean Cahill, development vice president at PGP, told GlobeSt.com, “Buildings will have access to sustainable components that other buildings on terra firma wouldn’t have,”
