Dive Brief:
- KieranTimberlake, an architecture firm based in Philadelphia, Pa., is making available an application called Tally that works to produce a more comprehensive life cycle assessment of a building than has been available before.
- The application uses building-material information from PE International in compiling eight categories of environmental impacts in the life cycle of building materials specified in a design.
- The Tally output is geared to the LEED v4 rating system as well as alternative systems, KieranTimberlake said.
Dive Insight:
The firm said it ran Tally through a three-month beta-testing process with 500 volunteers. What Tally can do, KieranTimberlake said, is take into account the environmental impacts of the quantities of materials specified for a given building, which is essential to a life cycle assessment.
