Dive Brief:
- A company called GDS Architects says it has the permits it needs to build a tower outside Seoul, South Korea, whose purpose is to not be seen.
- The "Tower Infinity" is a way to show off Korean technology by using cameras and LED projectors to "cloak" the building.
- The tower will be 1,476 feet tall and will have an observation deck, shops, theaters, restaurants and perhaps a water park.
Dive Insight:
Perhaps it's inspired architecture to want to erect a towering building that no one can see; in this case, the designers say the point is to show how great Korea's technological presence is by showing how well it can be hidden. The idea is that cameras will see what you would see if you were looking through the building and then will use projectors on your side of the building to show you what you'd see, making the building disappear, or close to that. One time it would be visible, however, is when the projectors are used for advertising.
