A Bronze-level green-home certification in constructing a new house is something builders can reach at little or no extra cost, even when high-flying "green" appears to cost too much "gold."
The National Association of Home Builders Research Center took a look at what was needed to reach the bronze level in almost 300 projects, and the staff there has come up with a 24-point list of steps any builder can take to get green under the ICC 700-2008 National Green Building Standard.
"A lot of builders also find that once they look at the mandatory requirements for a Bronze-level certification and see the other optional practices available, they’re very close to building an entry-level green home already," Professional Builder says.
