Providence, Rhode Island-based Gilbane Building Co. announced Tuesday it has named Michael C. Brown as regional president overseeing its Midwest and Texas regions. Brown will be based out of the company’s Chicago office.
Brown began his career as a project superintendent, according to a press release shared with Construction Dive, and served most recently as an executive vice president and general manager for Sweden-based builder Skanska USA’s Florida operations.
Prior to his work at Skanska, he spent nearly two decades with Gilbane. During that time, Brown rose from business development manager to vice president and operations manager, and senior vice president of the builder’s Southeast division, according to the company. The professional engineer has a degree in civil engineering from the University of Michigan.
“It feels like a homecoming to me,” Brown said in an email. “I am eager to rejoin as the company continues to build on its world-class delivery of projects.”
This isn’t the only recent move at the company’s executive level. Gilbane named Adam Jelen to be the company’s incoming CEO in June, with the transition effective this coming January.
Gilbane has marked the start of several notable projects throughout the Midwest and Texas, including:
- Groundwork on Intel’s $20 billion semiconductor manufacturing complex in Ohio.
- Northwestern Mutual’s office modernization project in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
- Indiana University Health’s downtown hospital in Indianapolis.
