- Longtime construction manager Gene McGovern, died in Florida last week, five days short of his 73rd birthday.
- With Peter M. Lehrer, McGovern founded Lehrer/McGovern in 1979 after the two met at Morse/Diesel.
- The company won the federal contract to manage the renovation of the Statue of Liberty, and the company was eventually absorbed by Bovis, becoming part of Lend Lease.
Dive Insight:
McGovern had his hands in several projects known worldwide, including Canary Wharf in London and Euro Disney. He was consulting from his home in Boca Raton, Fla., when he died, and had been engaged for the new Tappan Zee Bridge over the Hudson River, north of New York City.
