Dive Brief:
-
Architects in Beijing have designed a “super skyscraper” to look like a DNA structure and to replicate a city within its walls.
-
Called the Endless City, the futuristic, 984-foot tower might someday be built in London and would contain apartments, offices, parks, shops and streets.
-
Two continuous, gradually rising ramps from the structure’s lobby to its top floor would connect each level of what the architects call their “vertical city.” SURE Architects' chief architect Kam Fai Tai told CNN: “We tried to design a city rather than a high-rise building."
Dive Insight:
This design, which won this year’s SuperSkyScrapers Award, joins plans for conceptual skyscrapers that would look and feel like a city within a an expansive structure. Sure Architects’ Alina Valcarce explains that inside the structure, “there is no limit. You can walk in the same way you can walk around a city.”
