New coronavirus infections hit record highs in six states this week, marking a wave of new cases even as most states are moving forward with reopening their economies.
Arizona, Florida, Oklahoma, Oregon and Texas all reported record increases in new cases after recording all-time highs the week before, according to CNBC. Hospitalizations are also rising or at record highs.
Medical experts and elected officials in some of the affected states are calling for a halt or even reversal of business reopenings in order to protect residents and ensure that hospitals aren't overrun with COVID-19 patients.
