Several prominent construction industry firms in Quebec, including some large municipal contractors and one owned by a U.S. engineer, are at the center of an April 17 sting by provincial authorities in an ongoing bribery and fraud probe involving award of municipal contracts.
About 15 individuals, including company executives and the mayor of a Montreal suburb, were arrested and charged by members of a provincial anti-corruption unit that was formed last year.
Engineering firm BPR Triax, a Laval firm acquired by California-based Tetra Tech in 2008, and heavy-civil contractor Transport et Ecavation Mascouche Inc., were also charged.
