- In a change that will take effect on New Year's Day, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will allow a single apartment or condominium qualify for its WaterSense label to appeal to green tenants and buyers.
- It is not a completely free pass, however. Common areas of the building – indoors and out – will have to met some standards.
- For single-family homes to be labeled WaterSense houses, builders will have to use the EPA's online Water Budget Tool in planning landscaping and meet some other new standards, too.
