- Two university professors looked at 1.6 million home sales in California from 2007 through earlier this year and concluded that green certification does bring more green to sellers.
- Economics Prof. Matthew E. Kahn of UCLA and Prof. Nils Kok of Maastricht University in the Netherlands, who is a visiting professor at the University of California at Berkeley, got data about homes 4,321 dwellings that sold with Energy Star, LEED or GreenPoint Rated labels.
- When they controlled for all the variables, homes with a green tag sold for an average of 9% more than their conventional counterparts. They also found that being in a locale where more hybrid-powered vehicles were registered upped the premium.
