To prove that environmentally friendly housing does not have to be only for the well-to-do, Oakwood Homes in Denver and students from the University of Denver brought in a net-zero-energy house to sell for under $200,000.
Oakwood's first net-zero project with the university's School of Real Estate and Construction Management in 2011 delivered a home that sold for $315,000.
The house is a stucco, single-family at 4793 Ceylon St., in Denver. It sold for $189,000.
Patrick Hamill, who founded Oakwood, is a graduate of the university's Daniels College of Business and is on its executive advisory board. For 16 years, his company has been doing senior-year projects in which university students do all aspects of construction management.
