Dive Brief:
-
Two-thirds of real estate agents said homebuyer interest in “smart” home features is greater than it was two to five years ago, according to a Coldwell Banker survey of 500 of its sales associates.
-
And one-third said homes with automation features sell faster than homes without them. As a result, nearly 60% of the agents noted that home listings are more likely to highlight smart home features than they were in the past.
-
The most-requested smart home features, according to the survey, include the ability to control security, temperature, safety, lighting, entertainment, and appliances.
Dive Insight:
One surprise from the survey: Generation X—those born between the mid-1960s and the mid-1970s—are more interested in smart home features than the younger millennials.
Still, millennials are plenty interested, and homebuilders are responding with more features. “The connective tissue of smart technology is entering the mainstream,” Coldwell Banker Chief Marketing Officer Sean Blankenship said in a press release.
