Dive Brief:
- Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones' Blue Star Land Co. has partnered with developer Lincoln Property and started construction on a 300,000-square-foot shopping center.
- The project kicks off his plans for the $1 billion Gates of Prosper development in Prosper, TX, 25 miles north of Dallas, the Dallas Morning News reported.
- The 93-acre shopping center is the first phase of a 500-acre mixed-use project that will include additional retail, offices, apartments and single-family homes.
Dive Insight:
Jones and Lincoln have also teamed up to build the Dallas Cowboys’ new headquarters and ancillary developments in Frisco, TX, just south of Prosper. That project will include office space, sports facilities, retail and a luxury Omni Hotel.
It has taken Jones 20 years to amass the necessary land for his development, slowed by the 2008 recession, according to the Morning News.
"We are excited to finally get started on it," Blue Star CEO Joe Hickman said. "We are kicking off the dirt work and putting in the utilities and streets. We hope to have the first phase finished by the middle of next year."
A new highway interchange and other roadwork also play into the timing of the development. The population of Prosper, Hickman said, is also finally getting large enough to support the retail stores the development will bring.
