As we enter the second half of 2020, event planners are rethinking the rest of the year’s conferences and expos. Many are being hosted virtually or rescheduled. A few have been canceled, including the American Institute of Architects Conference on Architecture and The Women in Construction Conference (which has been postponed until October 2021).
Below is a list of virtual and in-person construction events for the rest of the year.
Online: ABC Virtual Legal Conference
June 18
The one-day online conference from Associated Builders and Contractors will have legal experts and government officials discussing the different impacts to the construction industry’s legal landscape due to the coronavirus.
Online: CFMA’s Virtual Conference
June 22-26
The Construction Financial Management Association has moved its in-person conference to a virtual platform. The weeklong event will still have presentations from industry experts, as well as general sessions, breakouts and roundtable discussions.
Online: Safety 2020 Professional Development Conference & Exposition
June 23-25
The safety exposition from the American Society of Safety Professionals, designed to help contractors get up-to-date information on best practices and training to protect workers onsite, has moved to an virtual platform. Online courses, general sessions and technology expositions will be included.
Online: Construction Safety, Health & Environmental Virtual Conference
July 14-16
The AGC has moved the Louisville, Kentucky, conference to an online event. Members can attend to learn more about managing worker safety as well as environmental risks.
National Association of Women in Construction Annual Conference
August 12-15
As of June 1, the NAWIC plans to hold its 65th annual conference in person in Houston. The organization said it is still observing possible developments and looking for the safest way to present the conference.
New Date: Building Innovation 2020 Conference and Expo
August 16-19
Originally scheduled for April 6-9, the pandemic caused the Building Innovation 2020 Conference and Expo to August. The four day conference will take place in Arlington, Virginia.
New Date: Associated Builders and Contractors Convention
August 17-19
The ABC has pushed its 2020 convention from March to August. The Nashville event will feature keynote speakers, education sessions and networking opportunities, as well as awards for contractors and managers.
New Date: Groundbreaking Women in Construction
August 24-25
Previously planned for May in San Francisco, GWIC has been moved to late summer. Conference organizers advise potential attendees to continue to check the site for updates.
New Date: Offsite Construction Expo
September 18
The Offsite Construction Expo, three, seperate one-day events will go ahead in person with new dates. The first, on Sept. 18, will take place in Denver, followed by an Oct. 22 event in Toronto and Nov 19. in Washington, D.C.
Construct
Sept. 30-Oct. 2
The Construct Conference in Grapevine, Texas, is designed for architects, contractors and construction managers and provides educational programs and presentations about recent trends, technologies and issues.
Construction Management Association of America National Conference and Trade Show
Oct. 11-13
The 2020 CMAA conference, scheduled for San Francisco, mostly caters to construction managers and owners who work with them, but breakout and networking sessions and seminars are also worthwhile for AEC leaders.
New Date: ENR FutureTech
Oct. 14-16
Intended for business and IT leaders in the construction industry, FutureTech has been postponed until mid-October. Potential conference-goers are advised to continue to check for updates.
Design-Build Conference & Expo 2020
Oct. 28-30
The annual conference from the Design-Build Institute of America will take place at the Gaylord Resort near Washington, D.C.
Greenbuild International Conference and Expo
Nov. 4-7
This conference, scheduled for in-person in San Diego and sponsored by the U.S. Green Building Council, showcases leaders in green building and sustainable construction, highlighting design, new technology, building systems and green materials.
Online: Autodesk University
Nov. 16-19
Autodesk announced that all its conferences, including Autodesk University, would go virtual for 2020. No changes to dates have been announced. The event explores how AEC pros can better use BIM and other new technologies to improve building construction, design and engineering.
