- Sage Creek High School in the Carlsbad Unified School District in California was designed to be environmentally friendly, and the effort has brought the school district national and regional recognition.
- Balfour Beatty Construction erected the school from plans by Roesling Nakamura Terada Architects, and those included a 6.2-acre area preserved as natural habitat for the area.
- The school got the 2013 Best Project Award for K-12 construction from Engineering New Record, and Associated General Contractors' San Diego chapter also gave the school its Build San Diego Merit Award for sustainable construction.
