Associated General Contractors of America says it is asking the Naval Facilities Command to leave pout project labor agreements (PLAs) in specifications for a wharf project in Maine and three jobs in San Diego.
The organization said Sunday that it has been able to block more than three dozen PLAs by opposing them in the administrative process.
"To date, all of AGC’s 40-plus letters that have been submitted to federal agencies in opposition to PLA mandates have resulted in withdrawal of their PLA requirement," the group said in a statement.
The National Right to Work Legal Foundation describes a PLA as requiring "all contractors, whether they are unionized or not, to subject themselves and their employees to unionization in order to work on a government-funded construction project."
AGC's current brequests involve the P-990 Explosive Handling Wharf #2 at Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor, two upcoming projects at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego and Special Project RM009-10 for HVAC and ductwork repairs in Building 1H at the medical center.
