Dive Brief:
- Dallas-based infrastructure giant AECOM on Tuesday announced the launch of PipeInsights, a digital platform that enhances the speed and precision of sewer inspection programs. Users can evaluate inspection results, diagnose problems and anticipate future needs on the platform, according to AECOM.
- The PipeInsights platform uses augmented CCTV inspections with machine learning algorithms that automatically detect defects and recommend optimal maintenance decisions, according to a company press release.
- The goal of PipeInsights is to help clients sustain their water infrastructure more confidently and cost effectively, Todd Battley, AECOM’s chief strategy officer, said in the release.
Dive Insight:
AECOM’s PipeInsights platform enables users to manage multiple sewer programs simultaneously and better understand overall sewer system health, the company said in the release. It also allows users to securely access inspections from any mobile device.
PipeInsights is the latest offering from Digital AECOM, which houses the company’s digital-focused consulting services, hosted services products and digital tools. AECOM’s Water business line seeks to offer safe and resilient sewer system solutions, said Beverley Stinson, chief executive of AECOM’s global Water business, in the release.
“With PipeInsights, our clients can accelerate inspections and dedicate more time to their core mission: solving today’s critical water infrastructure challenges,” said Stinson.
Despite ongoing challenges related to COVID-19, AECOM CEO Troy Rudd said in a recent earnings call that infrastructure investment in the U.S. and abroad will counteract those setbacks. That’s why it makes sense for the company to continue to pursue digital infrastructure products like PipeInsights. Another such example is AECOM’s Ev-readi digital tool, which helps clients integrate electrification of transit systems into existing infrastructure.
