Dive Brief:
- It appears that most people who buy green homes retain the enthusiasm they showed when they were shopping for them, with 92% saying in a survey that they would do it again and 94% saying they'd recommend the move to a friend.
- It is not as clear that as many buyers understood the cost, with 55% saying they knew their home might cost more than a conventionally built home but felt it was worth it.
- The National Association of Home Builders commissioned the survey of people who had bought National Green Building Standard houses within the previous three years, and GuildQuality carried it out.
Dive Insight:
The motive for the survey, NAHB said in presenting the results at its International Builders' Show was that traditional information about green-home buyers is gathered from people who are in the shopping process. The industry did not previously have information on how much correlation there was between how people felt when they were looking for and building their homes and how they felt after they had settled into them.
