The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) National Clean Diesel Campaign (NCDC) kicked off a national grant competition on Friday for funding for "projects that
achieve significant reductions in diesel emissions in terms of tons of pollution produced by diesel engines...."
Nationally, there will be $20 million available. Awards will be made by EPA regional offices, and the size of awards will vary, EPA said. Submissions are due by June 4.
EPA said it is particularly interested in hearing proposals that affect "fleets operating in areas designated by the Administrator as poor air quality areas."
The competition is wide-ranging. EPA said the diesels included are buses, medium-duty or heavy-duty trucks, marine engines, locomotives and nonroad engines, equipment or vehicles used in construction, handling of cargo (including at a port or airport), agriculture, mining or energy production.
