Design and Construction Week

Orlando, FL, Jan. 10-12

Homebuilding’s biggest event will be held in Orlando, FL, this year. Design and Construction Week comprises the National Association of Home Builders’ International Builders’ Show and the National Kitchen & Bath Industry Show. Programming for the more than 80,000 attendees includes continuing education, networking sessions and a 900,000-square-foot expo floor featuring the latest homebuilding products and technologies from more than 2,100 companies. National Multifamily Housing Council 2017 Annual Meeting

San Diego, Jan. 24-26

For NMHC members only, this event features education sessions, networking opportunities and leadership training for multifamily industry professionals. The three-day summit will feature keynotes by former secretary of state Condoleezza Rice and actor Dana Carvey.

Pennsylvania Housing Research Center Conference

State College, PA, March 1-2

This two-day event offers education sessions and full-day workshops devoted to residential construction structures and systems in four topic areas: building science and technology, building codes, multifamily and construction and management. 

Journal of Light Construction Live: New England

Providence, RI, March 23-25

Light-construction professionals can learn business practices, product installation and more at this annual event, which occurs annually on each U.S. coast. The East Coast iteration takes place in the spring, while the West Coast version occurs in the fall.

Affordable Housing Finance Live: Housing Developers Forum

New Orleans, April 26-28

While many of the events on this list are large, industry- or membership-wide affairs, others trend smaller. This three-day executive summit will share lessons learned from industry leaders in the affordable housing segment as the country faces a critical shortage of affordable housing inventory and the incoming presidential administration continues to talk tax reform, among other potential upheavals.

American Institute of Architects Convention

Orlando, FL, April 27-29

Addressing the state of housing in the U.S. is a task belonging to more than just the nation’s homebuilders. Architecture and planning professions are critical stakeholders in conceiving and executing developments, particularly in urban areas, that provide necessary housing and public space. Each year, AIA members and other industry participants gather to share success stories and best practices, with past keynoters including materials researcher Neri Oxman, architect Rem Koolhaas, former President Bill Clinton and artist and planner Theaster Gates.

Urban Land Institute Spring Meeting

Seattle, May 2-4

Although this conference isn’t housing-specific, the annual meeting of ULI members discusses topics of interest to the residential construction industry. Last year’s event featured talks on master planned communities, food deserts, public-private partnerships and the future of the suburbs.

PCBC (formerly the Pacific Coast Building Conference)

San Diego, June 28-29

This annual two-day conference is open to members of the building industry and focuses on homebuilding in the West Coast region. Attendees can learn about new products and technologies, get up to date on business best practices and network with the builders, developers, architects, manufacturers and more in attendance.

R|D|J 2017

Nashville, TN, Oct. 25-27

This annual event combines the Remodeling Show, DeckExpo and JLC Live for residential construction professionals to scope out new products, network and earn continuing education credits. Attendees include specialty trade contractors, remodelers, installers, custom builders and material dealers.

Portland, OR, Nov. 29-Dec. 1
