“This new investment is a critical part of the Tech Square expansion and delivers on the commitment we announced last year to grow our IT footprint in Atlanta and the state,” Jeff Fusile, president of Anthem affiliate Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Georgia, said in a statement. BCBS of Georgia is the state’s largest health insurer.
In announcing its initial investment last year, Anthem said it would bring about 1,800 IT-related jobs over the next six years to the Atlanta area. This new investment nearly doubles that commitment and expands Anthem’s footprint in the region’s IT market.
The tech hub has already yielded several initiatives including one called “What’s My Status?” It provides members with updates on the status of their claims, summaries of their care plans and data on their healthcare spending.
Anthem posted net income of $855.3 million for the 2017 second quarter, up from $780.6 million a year earlier. Operating revenue grew 4.3% to $22.2 billion, compared with $21.27 billion last year.
